These are the photos after Jon put the finishing touches to the chicken enclosure.
The poultry palace is now well fenced off with a good sturdy gate plus a couple of nice perches.
I have been looking round as to where we could get chickens locally and this
Well, I shocked Jon a bit by saying I had arranged for us to go a pick up half a dozen at around 12 o'clock for the bargain price of £2 each!. However, as is our want, we were early so by 12.15pm our six lovely ladies, and they are just gorgeous, had travelled quite happily in the back of the car and found themselves contentedly scratching about in their new home.
and to put the icing on the cake, Jon went outside to check on them and came back with this!
Ours is the one on the right compared to the shop-bought one on the left!
In the day's other news I have now put the tomato plants into a grow bag and just have to stop Jake coming into the greenhouse for a sniff around and standing on top of it.
Also today Jon has set out the size of the vegetable patch with the railway sleepers and on measuring it we worked it out to be around is 6 and a half by about 19 feet - plenty big enough to grow what we need, providing the harvest comes in ok!
We have found a supplier of top soil as once dug over, de-stoned and weeded etc we will need to add in some better soil. We also have access to some manure, thanks to our neighbour, for specific projects when we need it.
I am beside myself with excitement about everything at the moment! As we were working on the veg patch we were deciding where to put the fruit trees. Yet again I am struggling with a bit of self doubt and feel under some pressure for us to achieve our grow your own goal but I am just going to go for it and e positive that we will get something out of all of this. If nothing else we can live on eggs!
